His parents,John and Susan (Chandler) Barnes, natives of Kentucky, died inMason Co. His father died in 1843, his mother in 1853. Thesubject of this sketch was first married to Charity Ide, of NewYork. She died in 1863, having one child, William Barnes. In1868, Mr. B., was again married, this time to Ellen Lawson, ofSangamon Co., 111. Mr. Barnes, memory carries him back to thetimes when wolves were very numerous through this part of theState. They became very bold, even so daring as to chase a smalldog through the house. Mr. B. was in the war of the enlisted in Feb., 1865, in 148th 111. infantry, under Col. H. He was in Co.
