The upper reservoir (Llyn Stwlan) and dam of the Ffestiniog pumped storage hydro-electric scheme, North Wales.
The Llyn Stwlan upper reservoir and dam was the first major pumped storage hydro-electric system in the UK. Water is fed by underground pipeline at 27 cubic metres per second to the turbine generators at the power station on the banks of Tan-y-Grisiau lower reservoir producing 360 megawatts of electricity within 60 seconds.
