The beakis not at first used in defence; it is stilltoo soft, but the claws of a half-grownFalcon will start blood. Probably not many Falcons nests aretaken, and probably, too, not many broodsdestroyed. The eyries are often inaccessible,and the parent birds too fierce and devotedto allow the approach of vermin.
