Dorstone Castle Motte

The trees on the motte appear to have been deliberately planted and add to the significance of the castle site on the edge of the village. The image was made in a very dry Autumn. Although re-fortified on the orders of King Henry IV it seems likely that Owain Glyn Dwr was successful in destroying the castle. Nevertheless, it is thought that Charles I may have stayed here in later years whilst his army camped nearby.
