It has one of the most fertile soils in Asia, enabling agricultural production in the modern era, especially rice farming, all year round. Traditional Thai farming involves the use of water buffaloes, a very reliable beast of burden, still seen in many parts of rural Southeast is the world's largest exporter of rice, known for a high-grade fragrant species called Jasmine rice. Because of abundance of food and fresh water fish, it is also the destination of large flocks of migratory birds especially during planting and harvest seasons.
