Albania, Gjirokastra - UNESCO World Heritage Site (part 1)

Gjirokastra is a city in southern Albania, on a valley between the Gjerë mountains and the Drino, at 300 metres above sea level. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described as "a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of large estate". The city is overlooked by Gjirokastër Fortress, a castle in excellent condition, which has been transformed into a visiting area, accessible by car and walking. The interior of the castle is used as a war museum. Everywhere around there are souvenir shops and people who sell everything, that has been laid out on the stairs or even on the ground.
