Old ruins water mill with aqueduct. Acate. Sicily
The Casale district in the territory of Achates is indicated by some local scholars as the site on which some ruins including a massive wall along about sixty meters with a maximum height stood the ancient village of the Islamic Foundation of Odogrillo and as a reference point are shown five meters. This wall is often referred to as the remains of the castle or the village or the surrounding wall, actually detailed observation revealed about the nature and purpose of this building which was to be a simple aqueduct, in fact on top of the wall where it there is cutting of the collapse, it stands a good channel. The aqueduct purpose was to conduct the water withdrawn a little further upstream, probably by a spring over the road, to power a mill. The remains of the mill and all associated structures associated with a farm in ruins, are clearly visible against the wall. The peculiarity of construction of a wall full rather than opens a more practical solution to the arches is perhaps due to simpler construction technique or perhaps re-using existing structures, but it is far more likely that this solution was adopted for the inadequacy of the soil, consisting of mainly from river alluvium that he could not ensure full stability of a classic columnar structure. The observations of the geomorphological nature of the site and the almost total lack of ancient ceramic discoveries on the surface near the wall of plowed fields, move away the hypothesis that this was the actual place where once stood the village Odogrillo.
