(Aug. 2, 2022) Improved Navy Lighterage System (INLS) craft, attached to Amphibious Construction Battalion 1 (ACB 1), connect to the offloading ramp of a Military Sealift Command ship in support of Joint Logistics Over-The-Shore (JLOTS) training operations in waters off of Virginia, Aug. 2, 2022. JLOTS is an expeditionary capability utilized by the Department of Defense (DoD) to transport military vehicles and cargo from roll-on, roll-off ships at sea to the shore via an improvised port infrastructure. JLOTS are used when the DoD needs to deliver military vehicles and supplies to a shore-side locations which do not possess a traditional port infrastructure, such as bare beaches, austere ports or to ports which have incurred damage from a natural disaster or war-time conflict.
