Horseshoe Crabs spawning but thrown upside down by waves
Male Horseshoe crabs attach themselves to the rear of the larger female during spawning, As the female digs and lays eggs, the male fertilizes the eggs as it is dragged over them. Unfortunately, these two were tossed upside down by a wave. This frequent occurrence has resulted in a "Just flip 'em Program" at the Delaware Bay where many Horseshoe crabs spawn. These two were subsequently right-sided by this photographer.
