Gerry, 54 Report of the Charity Ball Society To the President and Board of Directors: Owing to the fact that this country was at war with Germany andthat the Government had urged the curtailment of all unnecessary expen-ditures, the Charity Ball Committee decided to omit the annual CharityBall for the year 1918. Since the Charity Ball was inaugurated in 1857,it has only been omitted on the other occasion and that was during thedark period of the Civil War.
