Similar to II. gallinaceus, but darker and more olive-green above, without the bronzy shade ; the blue-black colour of the hind-neck overspreading not only the mantle but the upper back as well; the wing-coverts sooty black, nearly as dark as the breast. Total length 7*8 inches, culmen with frontal lappet 1*7, wing 5, tail 1-135, tarsus 2'1, middle toe and claw 3*1. According to Mr. Ramsay, the female is one fifth larger than the male.
