Burnham Beeches: White Galloway cattle grazing in an area of ancient woodland pasture where the beech trees were periodically pollarded for fuel and winter fodder at 2-3 metres high, allowing livestock to forage beneath. The average age of the surviving pollarded beeches is around 400 years.
