Fortress, CItadel end Castle of Milazzo, Sicily
The whole area of the military citadel of Milazzo is one of the most preserved and large (7-hectare) military fortifications of Sicily and the Italian peninsula. The first traces of frequenting the area date back to the Neolithic but later with the Greeks and Romans who did the founding of the city of Mylai and the first fortifications, so the area through all stages of history and with the Arabs has the construction of a tower in the dungeon with the Normans who will serve as the basis for the expansion of the keep. Federico II the castle has a wall which is then reinforced by mighty cylindrical towers with Alfonso the Magnanimous. Following the growing threat of privateers, in the first half of '500 under Charles V was added an additional defensive system consists of a powerful massive wall provided by angular bastions and ramparts, the Spanish walls.
