In preparing nests for the cabinetI mount them on little boards 4^/^x5inches, twenty-four of these just fit adrawer in my cabinet, which is 18 x 30inches inside. Orange box coversmake the best as they are about theright width. I cut them to the rightsize and leave them rough just as theycome from the saw and stain them adark moss green with a stain made ofchrome green and drop of black made THE OOLOGIST 57. The grainof the wood shows nicely and therough finish is much more artisticthan to have the boards plained andthey harmonize with the bark of thebranches on which some of the nestsare placed. For the ground nests I make littlewire baskets and fasten them to thelittle board mounts. The nests whichare on a piece of the branch are fas-tened by putting a screw up throughthe bottom of the mount and into thebranch, thus fastening the nest secure-ly to the mount. For Vireos nests and others thatare in a forked branch I put a stand-ard on one side or in a corner of theamount and making a hole in the topof the standard fit the end of thebranch into the pole in the Hummingbirds nests can bemounted on one board by using stand-ards.
