At length the fire took effect, and the martyr triumphantly ascend-ed into heaven, after such a fiery trial as almost exceeds any thingwe meet with in the primitive ages. His last words were, LordJesus have mercy upon me; enable me to bear my sufferings for thyname s sake, and receive my spirit. Such was the end of one of the most eminent fathers of the churchof England ; and surely that religion which could support him undersuch dreadful tortures must be of God.
