Curb brokers. From the early 1800s until 1921, the New York Curb Market traded stocks outside. Some traders moved inside and eventually formed the New York Stock Exchange. Others kept trading outside and came to be known as curbstone brokers. They are seen here trading at Broad Street, between 1900 and 1915.
