The area is earmarked for redevelopment .Tens of thousands of people were forcedly moved when the area was declared a "white"group area in the fall of apartheid in 1994 the South African government pledged to support rebuilding of the area and returning those who can make legal claims. Behind the open land the Muir Street Mosque is visible.
