False Puffball Slime Mould, Enteridium lycoperdon, Reticulariaceae, Mycetozoa, Myxogastria, Amoebozoa. Cut Open to Show Spores.
False Puffball Slime Mould, Enteridium lycoperdon, Reticulariaceae, Mycetozoa, Myxogastria, Amoebozoa. Syn. Reticularia lycoperdon, Fuligo lycoperdon, Lycogala punctata, Lycogala turbinata, Mucor lycogalus, Reticularia umbrina, Enteridium lycoperdon, Strongylium fuliginoides. The slime mould has two phases to its life cycle: an actively feeding plasmodial stage and a reproductive sporangial stage. The plasmodial phase is mobile and is multi-nucleate, formed by the fusion of single cells and typically amoeboid in its movements, through cytoplasmic streaming. The reproductive sporangial stage (shown here) is non-mobile, looks more like a fungus and produces spores. The specimen has been cut open to show the spores.
