This line was changed to the trolley system, how-ever, a number of years ago. With the consolidation of the various lines the companyfound itself in the possession of a number of power houses,of which one only, that at Glenwood, which operated theSecond Avenue system, was of modern construction. Thisfact, together with the extension of its lines east and westfollowing the consolidation, made the subject of power. It includes all of the electric railway lines in thecity of Allegheny, as well as the important Second Avenueline of Pittsburgh, which parallels the MonongahelaRiver as iar as McKeesport, with branches to East Pitts-burgh and Wilmerding. Included in the Allegheny linesis the original system of the Federal Street & PleasantValley Railway, which possesses historic interest from thefact that it was one of the first, if not the first, of the elec-tric conduit railways in America to be operated commer- generation and distribution an important question, andone requiring immediate consideration. The system, as shown in the map on page 423, possessesa resemblance to an extended Y, with the Allegheny sys-tem near the base of the letter.
