Fishermen with beached boat at Budleigh Salterton East Devon XPL 4810-451
Situated on the coast of East Devon, Budleigh Salterton enjoys the benefits of a beautiful rural setting, surrounded by farmland woodland and Salterton lies within the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Access to mainline railways, both the Paddington and Waterloo lines, together with Exeter airport and the M5 motorway are all within about 12 miles. The coastline forms the western most section of Jurassic coast, , and the cliffs on either side of the town are the unique Red Devonian Sandstone. The beach which is formed of large pebbles extends for miles, from Littleham Cove to the west, to Otterhead in the east, where the River Otter meets the sea. Bathing is safe and the water clear, families can relax here, with the beach side cafes, beach huts (which are available for hire by the day or week from the TIC) and the rocks at Ottermouth giving parents and children plenty to explore.
