Walnsch Bay,farther north, in 23° S., affords a secure anchorage, but nofresh water or vegetables, though cattle are brought thitherfrom Damaraland. Fish is abundant, and the bay wasformerly a great resort of the American South Sea whalers,whence its name. The high country of the interior along the mountainranges, which generally extend parallel with the coast,is very healthy, in winter even cold, and slopes eastwardsdown to the Kalahari desert. T
