Jug 1775 John Crolius This jug was probably made by John Crolius, whose family worked in New York City in an area known as Pot Baker’s Hill, just north of what is now City Hall Park. He and his brother, William, were among the area’s first potters. Their father had emigrated from Germany and founded a pottery, which the family ran until the mid-nineteenth century. The jug is signed and dated, which is rare in eighteenth-century American Jug 4579
