D. 1759, Qtiebec was taken by ournoble and gallant Wolfe from a no less braveand gallant Montcalm. Both leaders lost theirlives in the engagements ; and it is a subjectof which both France and England are justlyproud that the descendents of those Frenchand British on which the French andBritish soldiers relied for aid in the deadly. The extent of her terri-tory and the abundance of her resources entitleher to a place amongst the first nations of theglobe. All that she wants to give her this posi-tion is a population to full}- develope thoseresources which nature has so bountifull}^furnished. The extraordinary tide of immigra-tion to our shores during the past ten ortwelve years, and the consequent developmentof the western part of our countr}, go to showthat Canada is advancing with acceleratedspeed.
