Dur-ing the Civil War Mr. Lewis was a memberof the Forty-fifth Regiment Ohio Volunteer In-fantry in which he served three years. In 1867 the subject of this sketch was unitedin marriage with Rebecca Hamilton, a nativeof Ohio, who died in 1871. In 1876 he was againmarried, wedding for his second wife ClaraSpangler, of Macomb Township, McDonoughCounty, who departed this life in 1892. Tothe first union, one child was born, who diedin infancy. Four children resulted from thesecond marriage, as follows: Lulu (Mrs;. HISTORY OF Mcdonough county. 939 Push); Becky: Allie May, wlio died in 1884;and Beatrice, who died in 190,5. Mr. Lewis served acceptably as Township As-sessor for one term and, for a like i)eriod. dis-charged the duties of Road Commissioner ofWalnut Grove Township. He is regarded as acapable business man. and bears the reputationof a well-informed and public-spirited citizen.
