The column protection having been set independently of thepartitions, is in fairly good condition. Some of it has beenforced away by bulging pipes, but the columns are apparentlyuninjured. The exterior wall furring has fallen ofl in spotsand is loose in many places. The elevator fronts and cast-ironstairway with marble treads are considerably damaged. Thesteel framing in the elevator shaft is bulged out of line. Comments: This building exemplifies very forcibly the necessity of pro-tecting large trusses in an efficient manner.
