Alpha-beta radiation analysis. Researcher preparing samples that will be tested for low levels of alpha and beta radiation. Extensive testing using specialised machinery can be required to detect and characterise such radioactivity accurately. Detailed analysis can identify the radioisotopes present. This is a Series 5 XLB, an automatic low background alpha/beta counting system from Tennelec, a division of Canberra Industries. It uses gas flow detectors with ultra-thin windows. The sample loaders can take up to fifty planchet sample changers.
