This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Kasei Valles, Mars, looking east. Satellite image of the southern branch of the Kasei Valles region on Mars, one of the biggest outflow channel systems on the planet. North of the valley is Sacra Mensa, which includes the graben system Sacra Fossae. The channel system was probably formed by gigantic flood events around billion years ago and by later glacial activity. The water was ultimately lost, however, due to the thin Martian atmosphere and weak gravity. The image was taken by the High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on board ESA's Mars Express spacecraft. The ground resolution is approximately 29 metres per pixel.
