Dhaka, Bangladesh : A shankhari artisan works on a conch bangle at a small workshop in Shankhari Bazaar. The Shankharis are an artisan caste dedicated to the production of bangles and rings made from slices of conch shell. A Shankha bangle is the symbol that indicates that a Hindu woman is married. Shankhari Bazaar aka Hindu street is one of the oldest areas of Old Dhaka, where 80% of the residents are Bengali Hindus, the largest minority in Bangladesh.
