On the quiet Sunday morning of April 2, a mes-senger entered St. Pauls Church in Richmond during divineservice and placed a telegram in the hands of a distinguishedgentleman seated well up to the front. After reading themessage the gentleman, taking up his hat, quietly withdrewfrom the building, and directed his eager steps towards theexecutive offices of the Confederacy.
