Asa Thompson, his father, was bornApril 1, 1792, in Cheshire, where hereceived a common school he was twenty-one years of agehe was located in Pennsylvania sellingjapanned ware, and subsequently trav-eled through Maryland and Virginia as aclock salesman. On his return to Con-necticut, he engaged in the lumber busi-ness at what is now the village of Plain-ville, then called Bristol Basin. In 1836he disposed of his interests to engage in 46.
