Lateral water visibility was about 10 m at these sites. Acropora cytherea, with larger colonies m in diameter, predominated at sites 14 and 17. Most of these corals were dead with several colonies observed being eaten by Acanthaster planci (Figure 18). Goniopora sp., about 1 m diameter colonies, were also present and did not show signs of predation by Acanthaster. Acropora thickets, with up to 100% live cover of branching species, were present at site 16. Coral reefs with other than acroporid and pocilloporid species predominant were seen at four sites.
