Grooved Raw Hide Belting. It will be remembered that one of the features of the Shultz sablerawhide belting is that it is tanned on the surfaces only, instead of allthe way through. Thispreserves an interior ofrawhide, retaining, it isclaimed, the originalstrength and greater dura-bility. A driving surfaceis also provided which tothe touch much resembleskid and is capable of ex-cellent contact with thepulley. These serve the purpose of channels to permitthe escape of air from between belt and pulleys, and to such a degreethat the air cushion is said to be overcome, making it possible for thebelt to run very nearly as slack as link belting: The grooves are keptconstantly clean by the current of air passing through them. It is alsopossible to run the belt satisfactorily with either slack top or bottom,and it is practically noiseless.
