San Antonio, Philippines. 1st Jan 2024: Philippine New Year celebrations are full of superstitions, a heritage rich in Chinese, Spanish, Catholic and pagan influences. Many Filipinos turn to lucky charms and rituals to bring them good fortune. Among wearing red undies, midnight jumps or making noises to drive away evil spirits, many make a prosperity bowl filled with rice, coins, bills, eggs, red envelopes in odd numbers, sometime water, fruit or blessed laurel near chocolates or fruits.
