Long Chaney MTN Phone Shop run by Jane Sekhukhununu Located at Saulsville Owned by Zoli Mthimzhulu Jane single 39yrs lives with her father as her mother passed away in 1975 She finished school aged 8 and then trained in first aid home nursing for the elderly Having run Zoli s phone shop for 2yrs from her home which is built in her front yard Jane gets R500 per month but this month got R600 which she hopes to maintain Jane s father is friends with Zoli which is how she came about the work The computers have been there for three to four months It costs R4 for 15mins Six people have paid to use the computers since the beginning but Jane has had to turn people away as she doesn t have skills to teach them although she is confident training her would correct this In response GSMA representative Shyam Ranchod from Accenture s ADP program said There is potentially a three tier training program planned Firstly they have basic training which Jane is due to have next week secondly and we are still in discussions with an external company they will have computer skills training These first two training stages are very important because the operators not only need to sell air time they also need to educate the customers Thirdly we are looking at business training In the past the operators have had customers that know what to do and what to expect but now they need to profile the customers and we are considering helping with this Jane thinks she could get maybe 10 customers a week maybe more if she had the training The demographics could suggest more with a school in the area and no other alternatives After asking what benefits the phone shop had to her community she said Sometimes they wake me up in the night when they want the ambulance In addition to this many people have email and several job agencies operate on the web and are very popular with the younger generation These services will become more and more valuable
