Ryongchon, North Korea. Image 2 of 2. Satellite image of the town of Ryongchon in northwest North Korea. This town was the scene of an explosion on 22 April 2004 in which at least 161 people were killed. The area of devastation is just to the left of centre next to the railway line, which runs from top left to bottom centre. The explosion appeared to have been caused by power lines falling on train wagons carrying oil and chemicals. For an image of Ryongchon before the explosion, see E780/893. The data for this metre-resolution image were obtained by the QuickBird-2 satellite on 27 April 2004.
