View of the solar power station at Odeillo-Font- Romeau in the Eastern Pyrenees, France, showing some of the 63 flat orientating mirrors that automatically track the motion of the sun. These reflect incident radiation onto a large parabolic reflector mirror. The reflector is composed of 9,500 mirrors which concentrate the sun's rays onto a dark-coated furnace at its focus. The system is capable of producing thermal power of 1,000 kilowatts, and achieving a temperature of 3,800 degrees C. within the furnace.
