He was a vet-eran of the Civil War, and was cap-tured on the second day of the Bat-tle of the Wilderness, and detainedfor many months in the southernwar prisons. He was held at Lynch-burg and Danville and there wastransferred to Andersonville andFlorence. It was while he was in An-dersonville that Providence Springburst forth, while the prisoners weredying of thirst. He is the authorof a book entitled Prison Life InAndersonville, in which many here-tofore unpublished incidents of thatperiod are detailed. He participatedin seventeen battles. He is a mem-ber of the Stanton Post. Mr. Maile has served in pastoratesof the <*ongregational church nine-teen jears. twelve years of whichwere spent in Michigan. For twoyears he was State superintendent ofSunday-school work in Colorado andMissouri; five years he served as-State home superintend-^ent in Nebraska, and filled the sameoffice for two years in North Da-1kota and eleven years in SouthernCalifornia. He was also for oightyears college field secretary for the!Congregational Educational Society^of Boston, representing the westernicolleges and academies in the New]England States. During the seven years of his pas-jtorate at Olivet Church it has pros-lpered, unity has been maintained,]and recently the church building hasibeen finely lighted and rendered]otherwise attractive within.
