Karl Raimund Popper (1902-1994), Austrian-British philosopher. Popper worked on the philosophy of science and the scientific method. His theory focused on falsification of theories as a way to distinguish science from non-science. This approach is also known as critical rationalism. Popper also worked on the problem of philosophical induction, and on philosophies of arithmetic, politics and history, as well as metaphysics such as truth, free will, and cosmological pluralism. From 1949 he was professor at the London School of Economics. His awards included a knighthood (1965), Fellow of the Royal Society (1976), and Companion of Honour (1982).
