Among tlie sources of Dr. Griswolds old time reminiscences and tales, tlie mostimportant were those of Jir. Cjiarles Williams of Eockv Hill, the j-oungc^t son ofJohn and grandson of Elias Williams. Of him. Dr. G. says: From no other sourcehave I obtained so much information about Rocky Uill matters back to 1800, asfrom him. For many years he was the local correspondent for the Conn. more than a score of years before his death, he was so deaf that conversationwith him was impossible; and from this fact, perhaps, he was the more observingof passing events. Being a great reader, he watched the newspapers and was fondof writing in correction of, and in addition to, what he read concerning local events,as well as concerning his own recollections.—H. R.
