Trophoblasts. Fluorescence deconvolution micrograph highlighting the golgi apparatus (green) in trophoblast cells. Trophoblasts are the first cells to differentiate from a fertilised egg (ovum), forming the outer layer of the blastocyst, an early stage of embryo formation. The trophoblast layer eventually forms the placenta. PLAC1 (placenta-specific protein 1) fluorescent marker is red. Cell nuclei (blue) have been highlighted with a DAPI stain.
