The track consists of rails weighing kgper meter ( lbs. per yard), laid in 9-m () lengths,on pine ties spaced 1 m ( ins.) apart. All of the electrical equipment for the cars and power housewas furnished by the Fr. Krizik Company, of Prague. Localconditions required the generating plant to be located near theTabor terminus, over 16 miles from Bechyne. Direct-currentdistribution at 750 volts, therefore, was not considered advis-. the motor equipment operates on one side of the circuit andhalf on the other, the system is well balanced and very littlecurrent flows through the neutral. The advantages over theuse of a straight 1400-volt line are, of course, that under nocircumstances, even in case of short-circuit, can a motor beexposed to more than 700 volts, and no difficulty has been ex-perienced in commutator or motor insulation with this fact, the results have proved so satisfactory that the manu-facturers propose the construction of a line operating at 3000volts and using 800-hp locomotives. The central station was located on the Luznice River near Tabor with the two-fold objectof lighting that city and beingnear a good supply of condens-ing water. The station con-tains three 120-hp engines, ofthe compound-condensing type, using superheated steam at 300degs. C. The engines are beltedto d. c. generators, one of whichsupplies current for the railwayonly, and the others for bothrailway and lighting.
