These estimates may seem large, but even if thesecities should grow more slowly the quantities of water required for theiruse will equal the estimates within a comparatively few years beyond thetime indicated, fifty years is a short period in the life of a city, and manyof the presenl inhabitants of these cities in the natural course of events will still be dwelling there at the end of that period.
