Geshe Sonam Rinchen reads a Buddhist text in preparation for teaching a class at the Library of Tibetan Works and Sonam Rinchen was born in Trehor region of Kham in Eastern Tibet in 1933. In 1945, he joined Dhargyey Monastery, and entered the monastic university of Sera in Lhasa in 1952, where he studied until he was forced to flee Tibet in India he completed his studies for the degree of Geshe Lharampa which he received in 1980. He also received the degree of Acarya from the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath. He was appointed resident teacher at the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives in Dharamsala, India in 1978, where he teaches Buddhist philosophy and practice, mainly to westerners. He has also taught in Japan, Australia, Great Britain, South Korea, Ireland, New Zealand and Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA) offers daily Buddhist philosophy classes to help people appreciate and understand 'truth' and help them deal with daily problems. The classes are taught by Geshes who are highly qualified in Buddhist philosophy and have dedicated a major part of their lives to study and Library of Tibetan Works & Archives (LTWA) is an autonomous body under direct supervision of the Dalai Lama. LTWA is recognized by Himachal Pradesh University as a Centre for Tibetan Studies in 1991 and was accorded status of National Library, Archives and Museum by the Tibetan Parliament-in-exile in 1996.
