The externalwalls of these chambers are of prodigious thickness, pierced withsmall windows secured by iron bars. A narrow stone galler},with a low parapet, extends along three sides of the tower justbelow the windows, but at a considerable height from theground. From this gallery, it is presumed, the queen loweredher son with the scarves of herself and her female attendantsduring the darkness of the night to the hill-side, where some ofhis faithful adherents waited with fleet steeds to bear him tothe mount
