Workers on a cocoa plantation in Bahia use long handled blades to slice cocoa pods from the trees. The price of cocoa has dropped by two thirds since 1985. Today more than half the area's workforce is unemployed. The extensive plantations mean there is no other land for them to use to grow food crops.
