UNIVERSITY AVENUE NURSERIES, ROCHESTER, N. Y. 79. PHEOX. PHLOX. These are justly esteemed as the finest of herbaceous plants. They are of dwarf habit, perfectly hardy, of very easy culture, and yield a profusion of bright, showy bloom. They are hardly equaled by any other hardy plant for the decora- tion of the garden. DWARF HARDY. No flowers of recent introduction are giving so much satisfaction as the dwarf, large-flowered, perennial phloxes. They come into flower in July and continue a long time. They can be made to bloom in the autumn by pinching off the shoots about the first of June and again in July. They are of the easiest culture, blooming the same season as planted, and satisfy everyone who plants them. The best time to plant is in the fall. They are benefited by a mulch during the winter. Our collection has been selected from the finest varieties and we recommend the following : Aurora—Flowers large; coppery orange red, crimson center. Coquelicot—Crimson scarlet; exceedingly attractive. Eclaireur—Carmine rose; white eye; large flower; earliest of all to bloom. Feu de Bengal—Fiery red; showy; attractive. Hercule—Carmine, crimson eye; large flower. King Of the Purples—Dark purple. The most attractive of all the phloxes. New. Lustre—Rose pink, crimson center; large flower; fine. Miss Theresa Levavasseur—Rose tinted white and marbled crimson; large flower; extra fine. Neptune—Pure self pink; a lovely flower. One of the best. Pacher—Flower large; pure self pink. This and the preceding are the only pure pinks we have yet met. Pluton—Crimson purple; large truss; distinct and fine. Purite—Pure wmite; large truss; good habit.
