Tower Beach, Stepney, London, c1945-c1955. Artist: SW Rawlings
Tower Beach, Stepney, London, c1945-c1955. Tower Beach was an artificial beach made during the 1930s at the River Thames beneath the Tower of London. The sand was eventually washed away during the 1950s. This view shows children paddling and building sand castles whilst parents relax on deck chairs. The walls of the Tower of London can just be seen on the left, with cranes and London Bridge in the distance.
