SERGEANT HAS SERVED IN TWO WARS - Sergeant Waller, officers' mess stewardess at a Yorkshire airfield of Bomber Command, was invalided out of the forces during the last war, but earned a mentioned in despatches. The widow of an Army officer she joined Queen Mary's Pioneer Corps in 1916, and served for two- and-a-half years overseas. For a year she was at the British Officers' Club at Boulogne and was in the big camp at Etaples when it was heavily bombed. It was for her brave conduct there that she won her distinction. Sergeant Waller lives at Stanmore, Middlesex, she owned an hotel before the war. She joined up in September 1942, passed her trade test at the end of her course with flying colours, gaining top marks and the rank of Corporal. She spent seven months on an airfield in Yorkshire, before being posted to her present station to take charge of the Sergeants' Mess. She soon gained her third stripe and was moved to the officers' mess. She has two children, both of them in the Air Force. Her son Frank is a Leading Aircraftman, her daughter Joan is a Corporal.
