The Oounty Coilncil of Northumberland in 1896 secured thefarm—which is about 400 acres in extent—on lease for 21 yearswith the object of carrying out demonstrations and experimentsunder careful supervision. The farm is not a commercial under-taking but an educational institution, and is chiefly devoted to (a)demonstrations of important processes in the practice of themanuring, tillage, and cropping of land, particular attention beinggiven to the economic improvement of poor grass land, (6) feedingexperiments to demonstrate the relative value of food stuffs, andsystems of feeding for farm stock. The Farm is miaintained at the cost of the NorthumberlandCounty Council, and is managed by a Sub-Oommittee of theCounty Education Committee, the scientific direction beingentrusted to thecu31924000216063
