The immersion element, or heat-pro-ducing part of these apparatus, consistsin ribbons of metal laid between sheetsof mica, then put under a pressure often thousand pounds and sealed withan oxy-acetylene blowpipe, thus exclud-ing the oxygen and making the instru-ments non-oxidizable.
